“And Mary said, ‘How will this be since I am a virgin?’” (Luke 1:34)
“And Mary said, ‘Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.’ And the angel departed from her.” (Luke 1:38)
“Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.’” (John 8:58)
I like the modern Christmas song, “Mary Did You Know.” For me it captures the profundity of the Christmas story which is lost many times in our yearly Christmas traditions. Phrases like, “This child that you’ve delivered will soon deliver you,” “And when you kiss your little baby you’ve kissed the face of God,” and “This sleeping child you’re holding is the Great I AM,” begin to touch on the depths of what happen in the incarnation of Christ. Jesus was no ordinary child. He is the Great I AM! Mary’s story reminds me that we do not have to understand “Why” or “How” to be used by the Living God. We must only be his willing vessel in the hands of our Master.
MARY DID YOU KNOW
Mary did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Mary did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you’ve delivered
Will soon deliver you
Mary did you know
That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with His hand?
Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little baby
You’ve kissed the face of God
The blind will see
The deaf will hear
And the dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the Lamb
Mary did you know
That your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know
That your baby boy will one day rule the nations?
Did you know
That your baby boy is heaven’s perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you’re holding
Is the Great I Am
