DAY 5 Adore on Bended Knee
“And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:16)
The narrative does not tell us how the shepherds reacted to finding the Christ child except that in the verses that follow, they went out and proclaimed what they had seen. I image though, that when they saw Christ, they went down on bended knees. After the message that had been proclaimed to them, how could they have responded in any other way. We too, when we realize the gravity of the coming of Christ, must fall on bended knee before him.
ANGELS WE HAVE HEARD ON HIGH
Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heav’nly song?
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Come to Bethlehem and see
Christ Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
See Him in a manger laid,
Whom the choirs of angels praise;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
While our hearts in love we raise.
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
